Albanchez is a town of Arab origin with the first data on record corresponding to Christian times.

As you ascend down the hills from Cantoria, where the road cuts deep into side of the mountain, you glimpse the bottom of the valley usually covered with a green that seems quite out of character with the arid hills around you, Albanchez looms ahead with its white dwellings crowned with terracotta tiles ascending up the hill.

Albanchez is an area of the great influence in the production of marble, and its industry is the most important economic activity in the municipality, next to agriculture, the fruit-bearing type, the olive trees, vines etc, which is grown on small plots of land, but the production from such small plots is very substantial.
